One of the many reasons why a holiday, or a longer stay, on the Costa del Sol never gets boring is that there are an incredible amount of interesting places to visit where you can experience beautiful scenery or exciting architecture and Spanish culture.
Here are a few examples of sights worth visiting.Enjoy!
Ronda - the old town 1000 meters up in the Andalusian clouds. First you drive to San Pedro de Alcántara, just after Puerto Banus on the A7 motorway, and then drive 47 kilometers up the mountains behind Marbella, a hairpin turn after another. It takes an hour to get up there, but it's worth the trip. The old town with the bridge over the several hundred meters deep gorge gives a shiver in the stomach and it is an exceptionally beautiful experience.
Caminito del Rey - a mountain hike beyond the ordinary Close to the small village of Ardales and the lakes Embalse de Guadalhorce in the Abdalaji valley 40 km behind Malaga, the Spanish state with the local authorities has made an exceptionally beautiful mountain hike. In some places you look hundreds of meters into the depths of a rifting river, in other places the path is carved into the mountain wall with only a little rope to prevent the fall, and the highlight is to go from one mountain wall to the other over a small bridge that works very fragile. A great day for adrenaline junkies!
Sierra de Nevada - Europe's southernmost ski resort 150 km from Malaga at an altitude of 3,800 meters is a fantastic ski resort. The skiing season is from December 1st to May 1st. It is one of only a handful of places in the world where you can ski in the morning, and swim in the afternoon in the blinding sunshine and over 20 degrees heat. That experience is a must on anyone's bucket list
The Alhambra Castle - an architectural marvel in Granada Not far from Sierra Nevada lies the legendary Moorish royal palace and palace of the Arab kings from its origins in the 8th century until the Spanish reconquistas chased the Muslims away from Spain in 1492. Extremely beautiful and one of the world's most important Arab buildings only a half hour drive Malaga. Ski and get a Spanish culture injection on the same day.
The old town of Malaga and the new waterfront Muelle Uno Where Málaga just 15 years ago was a place no one came, the old town of Málaga has now been transformed from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. All house facades have been plastered and painted in their original colors, and the city now appears as impressive Spanish local capital filled with intriguing old Spanish architecture. Nowhere in Malaga gives you a better insight into local life than in the local market for fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and fish in the imposing old market halls of the Mercado de Aterazanas. And then Malaga's "Champs Élysées" La Alameda and the new Muelle Uno theme park are just ten minutes away on foot.
Puerto Banús - the billionaire's playground A “must” when visiting the Costa del Sol. The place where you can see the latest Ferrari, Bentley or Lamborghini, and where a luxury yacht can be the size of a ferry. Everything is twice as expensive as anywhere else on the coast. In addition to looking at boats and great cars, it is also the right place to shop if you want the most expensive brands like Hugo Boss, Prada, Versace, Armani etc etc. Remember to stick your little finger out when sipping on your Cocktail!
